How are we doing?
"Earlier this year, Susan K. Bailey Marketing & Design packed up after 20 years in Foxboro, and moved to a brand new location in Belleville. As part of our "fresh start", a Corporate Membership at One-to-One Fitness & Health was organized, and all I can say is Wow! The response from staff has been amazing!
Several times a week, our mix of 13 new and experienced exercisers descend upon One-to-One to take advantage of their facilities and classes. Since we spend most of the our day sitting in front of computers, having the opportunity to get out of the office and be physically active, while spending time together in a non-work related way, has been a huge boost to morale.
The lunch hour programs are so popular people have been showing up on their days off so they don't miss out.
Andrea and her team make us work hard, but they keep it fun and offer lots of encouragement. Once you catch your breath, you leave saying "Man, I can't believe I just did that!" It's that sense of accomplishment which must explain why we keep coming back for more in spite of some seriously sore muscles...
I've never been a "gym" person myself. While I like to walk, have taken a few yoga classes, and even own a treadmill, working out at One-to-One is my first experience in a real fitness environment, and, I have to admit, I'm kind of loving it. I like discovering I'm a little tighter here or a little more toned there. I appreciate being able to turn a bad day around because I took the time for a quick workout. I'm even liking the physical challenge of having to dig a little deeper, and give just a bit more because I know for certain that I wouldn't be working this hard or accomplishing this much on my own (because to be honest, some nights it is all about the couch baby).
Since we started our membership at One-to-One there's such a great vibe in the office; people are excited and it shows. There's always someone wanting to know if you're going to work out today or if you're attending that specific class. It's such a positive experience for everyone."

Six Weeks to Life
I first entered the world of One to One through the Physio area. I had finally had enough of my lower back aching whenever I stood or sat too long, when I golfed, cleaned or even shopped. I seen one physiotherapist then another and both of them both told me I had a few things to be tweaked but that I had a very weak core and they figured this was the source of my problems. This bothered me, to the point of tears. I have always thought of myself as active and did not like feeling and being told I was weak. One day while at 1-2-1 I saw a notice for “Soul Sistas”. It was a six week program for women that focused on fitness and healthy living. Since I’m a person who seems to need to be accountable to someone else, other than myself, to keep on track I thought I’d give it a try. And by God, it had to help that weak core of mine!
I love the fact that I was given guidance on healthy eating and portion size. Although I ate fairly healthy, I wasn’t long realizing that my portions were too large and I ate too much fruit. I also realized that I didn’t have treats once in a while, I had them on a daily basis (sugar overload!).
That first week was a killer and my muscles let me know it! It hurt to climb the stairs and going down them was twice as bad. I loved the ladies in the class. All shapes and sizes, all at different ages and stages in their lives. Some had little ones, some with teenagers like myself and some with grown children. But we all had the same general goal - to improve our eating habits and physical being. We would chat in class or on-line and share our struggles and successes. It was extremely motivating and so were the instructors.
On the first night, we weighed in and had our measurements taken (agh nobody likes this part) and we also did the same on our last night. I was, and still am delighted. I went from a 146 pounds to 133 pounds, down 13 pounds in just six weeks. I went from a size 10 to a size 6. It took me a while to get used to looking for this new size when I go shopping, not to mention the compliments that I received on my new figure. It was uplifting! I still struggle not to overindulge or be swayed by sweets but I’m committed to my new healthy life.
I enjoyed all the instructors and the variety of classes they lead, with the boot camps being my favorite. It was during the weigh in on the first night when I first met Alison Kemp. She seemed quiet and made me feel comfortable, even when stepping on those blasted scales. I also remember one of the first classes I had with her. She said something like “I just came back from a run and I still have lotsa energy left in me ……..”. Well I think my eyes bugged out of my head and I thought “Oh, oh, am I going to be able to keep up with this chick?”. It turns out I had nothing to be afraid of. Alison is wonderful and leads a hell of a tough class but that’s why I was there. In fact, she is the instructor that touched me the most. She described her name one day along the lines as plain and not very exciting and even her name was plain and contained only one ”l”. She is anything but plain. She is driven, with intense motivation, inspiring to others and beautiful inside and out. I am so glad I had the opportunity to have met her. She is not only still my instructor on Thursday nights at “Spin Class” but a new friend. There are many great ways to describe Alison:
A-an approachable, alive, athletic angel
L-a lovely, luminous, lady
I-an incredibly, intelligent, informative, insightful individual
S-a smiling, sensitive, sensible, superbly, spectacular sista
O-optimistic and outstanding
N-a nutritious, nourishing, nymph (beautiful female spirit or goddess)
I do wish Alison’s name contained an “e” so I could have also used these words to describe her: an extraordinary, enthusiastic, energetic, exciting, exquisitely exhilarating, exercising executive.
Alison, you are beautiful inside and out and I appreciate all of your guidance and the friendship you have extended to me. You are a rock solid trainer. May you always be blessed with health and happiness.
I signed up at One to One fitness in October and was teamed up with Jessica as my personal fitness instructor. After my first session I felt so confident and at ease with her. Her passion and motivation was inspiring and couldn’t wait to go back for more. Every time I felt like I couldn’t pick up one more weight, or do one more push up, she would cheer me on and give me encouragement saying “you can do it”! Jessica helped me with some healthy lifestyles when it came to my eating habits which were really helpful. After the 12 weeks and now boot camp classes I have lost 20lbs, gone down three dress sizes and I feel the healthiest I have in years. I owe it all to Jessica by helping me reach my own personal fitness goals! Thank you!
` One day, 10 years ago, I had a realization that I may not live to see my daughter’s graduation. You see, my excess weight was beginning to cause a myriad of health problems, and I just couldn’t stand the thought of not being there for my daughter as she passed through her life milestones.
And so, my life’s journey took a new path. The many exercise videos, equipment and numerous personal trainers I had, do not signify failures. They have been what I needed at that point in time. It’s been a slow transformation, definitely NOT easy, and I’m still learning and adapting my nutrition and exercise for who I am today.
Jessica’s Bootcamp, 3 times a week, provides me with the opportunity to push myself to the edge of my physical ability. I don’t want to miss a single session, because it’s the perfect blend of cardio, strength, community and fun!
10 years ago I was a size 16. Now I am a size 8. But I haven’t reached my destination. Being healthy and active are a natural part of my life now. I’m looking forward to staying that way! Thanks Jessica, and the supportive staff at One to One.
Andrea, I wanted to personally thank you for everything you’ve done for me since we first met. Winning the free soul sista workouts have honestly changed my life. No, I didn’t need to lose weight, and yes, I was pretty fit and active, but what I was lacking was the confidence and the belief that I could do what I had set my eyes on , the PEC ½ marathon in honor of my mom. When I found out I won the challenge, I was ecstatic, because at that point in my training I had only ran 10km. But with the soul sista classes, and how the boot camps with Jess, I got the strength, confidence, and courage to follow through with my goal. I wanted to run the ½ in less than two hours and I ended up completing it in 2:01:21. I am a teensy bit disappointed, but I did this for my mom mot for me, so I’m forgetting about the time and dedicating it to her (I’m sure there will be many there I will do anyway where I can focus more on time!). Thank you so much Andrea for giving me the chance back in May to participate in the Soul Sista classes. They have honestly changed my life. I am so grateful that I was given this opportunity to better myself as a person but more importantly to me to do this in memory of my mom.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
